What Makes Lucy Bee Coconut Oil Different?
Single Source
Our coconut oil is sourced from single estates in the Philippines and is not blended with other coconut oils.
Flavour
With its naturally rich aroma and delicate coconut flavour, it’s perfect for everything from roasting vegetables to baking cakes.
Extra Virgin, Pure and Unrefined
We use organic, fresh, mature coconuts which are shelled and pared to remove the outer shell and brown skin. The flesh is dried under controlled conditions, then expeller cold pressed to produce our coconut oil.
It is unrefined and is not bleached, deodorised or chemically altered in any way.
Cold Pressed and Raw
Our coconut oil is cold pressed and raw, which means minimal heat, approximately 41°C, is used in the extraction process. This helps keep the oil in its most natural state.
Non-GMO
The coconuts used to make our coconut oil have not been artificially altered in any way and are non-GMO.
Grown in Agroforestry
The coconuts are grown in agroforestry, an eco-friendly approach combining trees and shrubs with crops and/or livestock to create a more diverse, productive and sustainable land-use system.
Ethics
Our coconut oil is certified Fair Trade, Organic and Vegan, and we can confirm that no monkeys are used to pick the coconuts.
Glass Jar and BPA Free Lid
Our coconut oil is bottled in a recyclable glass jar. The lid is tin plated steel of the highest quality available and is BPA free, with a liner which is a BPA-non-intent design.

No Monkeys Are Used
Part of our Fair Trade certification guarantees that there is no animal cruelty. Our producer from the Philippines says: “In the Philippines, it is not custom to utilize monkeys or any other animals to collect coconuts from the tree. Harvesting method is either manual (climbing) or using bamboo pole.”
Fair Trade
Our coconut oil is certified Fair Trade by FairTSA, the Fair Trade Sustainability Alliance. Every purchase helps support the farming communities who produce our coconut oil.
Over a third of the Philippine working population are in some way involved in the coconut industry. However, it is difficult for many farmers to earn a steady living growing coconuts, with around 60% living below or around the poverty line.
This is due to expensive transportation costs, unpredictable and fluctuating market prices, and exploitation. Many workers in coconut processing facilities work under difficult circumstances with low wages.
FairTSA Fair Trade certification aims to alleviate these issues through strict labour working conditions policies, fair price policies for small farmers, and a Social Premium paid by buyers of coconut products, which is invested in projects to help improve farmers’ and workers’ lives.
Community members are empowered by being included in decisions about these investments.
In the Philippines we’ve helped to build two wells, provide clean and safe water, solar panels and scholarships for children’s education, as well as other community development initiatives chosen by participating farmers.
Organic
Our coconut oil is certified organic by Organic Food Federation. This means our coconuts are grown and processed without synthetic pesticides, man-made fertilisers or genetically modified organisms.
It also ensures strict supply chain traceability, inspections and environmentally sustainable harvesting practices.
Vegan
Our coconut oil is certified vegan by The Vegan Society, meaning no animal products or by-products are used. It is suitable for those following a vegan or plant-based diet and is a great dairy free alternative to butter.
Lucy’s Visit to the Philippines
In 2019, Lucy travelled to the Philippines to meet the people behind our coconut oil. She spent time with the farmers and their families, visited the coconut plantations and processing facilities, and saw first-hand how Fair Trade is helping to improve local communities.
From clean water projects to education initiatives, it was inspiring to see the positive difference that every Fair Trade purchase can make.
