Cruelty Free International & Leaping Bunny
Did you know?
Products may claim to be ‘cruelty free’ or ‘not tested on animals’ but their claims may only refer to the finished product. A lot of animal testing actually occurs at the ingredient level. Similarly, some companies state ‘we do not test on animals’ when in fact they merely contract other companies to do the testing for them.
Why are Lucy Bee Cruelty Free (Leaping Bunny) approved?
According to Cruelty Free International, 80% of the world still allows animals to be used in cruel tests. There is absolutely no need to test products on animals and so this is something that we feel strongly about at Lucy Bee and something that we want to help make a stand against.
What do Cruelty Free International do?
Cruelty Free International works to end animal experiments worldwide. They do this by investigating and exposing the reality of life for animals in laboratories. They challenge decision-makers to make a positive difference for animals. And they champion better science and cruelty free living.
It’s the best assurance that a company has made a genuine commitment to ending animal testing. Cruelty Free confirm that, “Our brands must meet our rigorous criteria which apply globally and extend over and above laws governing animal testing and include ongoing independent audits. Only then can they display the Leaping Bunny logo.”
The Cruelty Free International Leaping Bunny is the globally-recognisable gold standard for cosmetics, personal care and household products It is the only international logo that requires a supplier monitoring system to be implemented by the company; supply chain checking for animal testing right down to ingredient manufacturer level; adherence to a fixed cut-off date policy; and acceptance of ongoing independent audits to ensure compliance with all of these aspects.
Statement
Lucy Bee believes that beauty and household products should be cruelty free. We are proud to be Leaping Bunny approved. A global programme, Leaping Bunny requires cruelty free standards over and above legal requirements.
All of our own brand cosmetic and personal care products are approved under the Cruelty Free International Leaping Bunny programme, the internationally recognisable gold standard for cruelty free products. We adhere to a fixed cut-off date policy and proactively monitor our suppliers to ensure that our products continue to adhere to Leaping Bunny criteria. Our supplier monitoring system is also independently audited.

The Vegetarian Society was established in 1889. Fair Trade Sustainability Alliance (FairTSA)
Did you know?
FairTSA places an emphasis on the farmers and workers who produce our products and believe they should have a say in how the Fair Trade contributions are used. Committees are set up involving locals so that their voice is heard, rather than someone else far away deciding what they think is best for the community. This is something that makes FairTSA quite unique to other certifying bodies.
Why is Lucy Bee a part of FairTSA?
Lucy Bee pay a 10% premium for the raw materials plus an additional 0.75% of total sales goes to FairTSA. The 10% is used for fair wages and sustainable community projects, while the 0.75% is to allow FairTSA to work.
So far, with our contributions we have built two wells for the local community in the Philippines, saving a two hour walk to get fresh, clean water. We have also helped with school scholarships, water conservation projects, solar power, feeding programmes and healthcare in the Philippines, Peru, Indonesia and India.
What we’ve realised since working with FairTSA is that really the question is not so much ‘why would I buy Fair Trade?’ but more ‘why wouldn’t you’?
What do the FairTSA do?
The overall goal of the FairTSA is to empower farming communities, invest in local infrastructure, healthcare and education, maintain cultures, care for and encourage environmentally sound initiatives and foster gender equality.
Statement
Lucy Bee believe it’s extremely important to give back to the communities that supply us with these incredible products that we bring to the UK market. We want to be sure that the products we sell means the workers are paid a fair wage, have contracts so they can’t be exploited and receive a fair price for their products. Additionally, it means there is no child labour and cruelty to or misuse of animals.
