Coconut Oil in Skincare

As I’m sure many of you already know, the Lucy Bee story started back in 2012 when we introduced our Extra Virgin, Organic, Raw, Fair Trade Coconut Oil to the UK market.

We were introduced to coconut oil by a friend from Hong Kong and we’ve never looked back since. As a family we used it every day in our cooking and as a beauty therapist, I used it on my clients for massage, facials, etc. It’s because of my background in beauty that I wanted to create my own skincare range.

Coconut oil is rich in fatty acids so it’s great for moisturising the skin and helps to increase skin elasticity as it repairs the skin’s natural barrier and traps in moisture. It can help to soothe rashes, redness and has been known to help cuts and scratches to heal naturally as well.

It is full of antioxidants, especially vitamin E which means it protects the skin from free radicals. Free radicals are unstable atoms that can damage cells and are linked to ageing.  Vitamin E is absorbed into the skin very quickly and so gets to work almost instantly.

Coconut oil contains lauric acid, which has antimicrobial and antibacterial properties. The only other place you can get lauric acid is in a mothers breast milk, so I think this one speaks for itself when it comes to just how great it is.

You can find Lucy Bee Coconut Oil in our Reviving Cleansing Cream, Radiance-Boosting Face Cream, Vitamin-Rich Sweet Glow Face Scrub, Natural Deodorant, Invigorating Body Scrub and Brilliant Balm

There is a high content of coconut oil in our Radiance-Boosting Face Cream and it is used predominantly to help hydrate and rejuvenate tired, dull-looking skin. Along with the shea butter and cocoa butter – our Face Cream is full of moisturising properties.

The oil in our Cleansing Cream makes it extremely hydrating and also helps to remove makeup and daily impurities. Coconut oil is one of the most effective natural make up removers (even for waterproof mascara) and it also helps with lash growth.

If these reasons aren’t enough of an incentive, then by using coconut oil in our formulations, we don’t have to use palm oil. Palm oil is an extremely versatile product and one that can be used in the majority of skincare and cosmetic products to change the viscosity and act as a skin conditioning agent. However, rainforests are being destroyed at an alarming rate across the world due to the demand for palm oil. The coconuts we use are grown in eco-friendly agroforestry amongst banana trees. This contributes to soil fertility, cleaner water through reduced nutrient and soil run off and it allows for other crops to be grown between the coconut trees.

Lucy Bee is a lifestyle brand selling food, skincare and soap products all completely free from palm oil and with minimal use of plastic. Lucy Bee is concerned with Fair Trade, organic, ethical and sustainable living, recycling and empowering people to make informed choices and select quality, natural products for their food and their skin.
