Brilliant Balm FAQ

What are the main differences between the Reviving Cleansing Cream and Brilliant Balm?

Both products can be used in your daily skincare routine, they are both cleansers but with different purposes.

Our Reviving Cleansing Cream is a rinse-off cleanser that cannot be left on the skin. It can be used both morning and night. It is a cream and oil-based cleanser which is lighter in weight than the balm. It contains anti-inflammatory properties to help reduce redness, blemishes and problematic skin. It is anti-ageing and repairs and hydrates skin. You need to apply this to damp hands and skin and then use with a wet Lucy Bee muslin cloth or cotton pads to wipe away the cleansing cream and impurities it has lifted.

Our Brilliant Balm is multipurpose. It can be used as a leave-on product to moisturise dry skin (overnight mask/balm and on dry areas), as well as a deeply nourishing and rich cleansing balm that can be used morning and night (morning – great way of boosting your skin’s hydration and getting the oxygen and blood pumping. Evening – makeup remover and more of a luxury, relaxing evening balm). You need to apply it to dry hands, warm the product up and then apply to dry skin. Massage into the skin and then wipe off with a wet Lucy Bee muslin cloth/cotton pad. It helps improve firmness, reduce fine lines and wrinkles, and is intensely nourishing, soothing and skin-protecting. It is great for sensitive skin, dry skin and as an anti-ageing product as it really locks in the moisture.

Both products remove makeup.

What other ways can I use the Brilliant Balm?

You can use our Brilliant Balm on all dry areas, whether that’s knees, elbows or cuticles. It’s also great for taming brows and can be left on your face overnight as a deep-conditioning treatment. Alternatively, it makes a great, rich balm for your lips. See our blog here for more details

How often should I use the Brilliant Balm?

Use the Brilliant Balm as a part of your daily skincare routine – it can be used both morning and night. In the morning it is great if you wake up with dry, tired-looking skin as you can massage it into the skin and get the oxygen and blood pumping around while also locking in moisture ready for the day ahead.

At night, it is more of a luxurious pamper cleansing balm, deeply nourishing and an effective make-up remover. Again, using it in the evening means you are locking in moisture and will wake up with softer and hydrated skin.

If using as a deep conditioning treatment, then we’d recommend using 2-3 times per week.

How does the Brilliant Balm work for people who want anti-ageing skincare?

In a word – brilliantly! This product helps improve the skin’s natural barrier to prevent water loss, keeping skin hydrated, moisturised and plump due to the blend of oils that we have used to create this product, which include squalane (helps with skin suppleness, reduces fine lines and wrinkles and improves skin firmness).

Oils in this balm include apricot oil, almond oil, rosehip oil, coconut oil, jojoba oil, grapeseed oil (high linoleic acid content) and sunflower oil which all condition the skin, soften the skin and are deeply hydrating and nourishing which give the skin a lovely healthy look.

It also contains bisabolol which is skin conditioning and protects the skin against daily stresses.

One of the main things as we age is the lack of moisture and plumpness to the skin, this balm will increase the skin’s hydration helping with the appearance, and as you massage it into the skin it gives oxygen, blood and nutrients to the surface which helps to plump the skin and make it look healthier and more youthful.

How does the Brilliant Balm work for people with sensitive skin?

Our Brilliant Balm has been dermatologically approved for sensitive skin. This product is deeply hydrating, nourishing and gentle on the skin which really helps to soothe sensitive skin.

Is Brilliant balm suitable to use during pregnancy?

Yes, Brilliant Balm is suitable to use in pregnancy. If you have any concerns we advise checking with your healthcare practitioner.

Would this help moisturise the skin on my pregnant tummy/bump?

Yes, absolutely! Oils are a great way to moisturise the skin, and repair and build up the skin barrier. This is because oils create a natural film on the surface of the skin which prevents natural water loss and therefore builds up skin moisturisation.

Is the Brilliant Balm suitable for people with oily skin?

Our Brilliant Balm has a rich, oil-based consistency. It has been dermatologically approved for sensitive skin and is suited to help hydrate dry skin.

It is important to note, that even if you are someone with oily skin then it is great to use and include an oil-based product into your routine, it can help balance out the sebum level and help the skin’s appearance. Sometimes people are scared to use oil-based products on their skin because they think they have an oily complexion, but it can actually do wonders to the skin, especially if you have oily/sensitive/irritated skin.

Avoid too many products which strip the skin of its natural oils as it can in turn cause more oil, irritation, blemishes and problems. Our balm is wash and wipe off, so a great way of including oils to your skin a couple of times a week, or every day depending on your skin and routine.

How does the Brilliant Balm work for people with problematic skin?

It really depends on someone’s skin type, as we are all different in the concerns or issues we have with our skin. The great thing about this balm is it can either be left on the skin or removed. It is really gentle and deeply hydrating so will help many skin types.

If you are someone who usually avoids oils, then this balm may be too rich for you, but if you are someone who suffers with irritation, dry areas, blemishes that feel tight and itchy, breakouts with a dry/oily combination skin type or concerned about ageing then using a balm every day or a couple of times a week may help your skin and definitely the overall appearance from a hydrated point of view.

If you are looking for anti-ageing products, then this balm is definitely a must-have in your bathroom, it will help with the overall appearance of the skin, locks in moisture which helps with fine lines and gives the skin a more plumped look.

Is the Brilliant Balm suitable for someone with eczema/psoriasis?

Yes, it is suitable for people with sensitive skin and so should work really well for people with eczema prone skin or psoriasis.

Can you put moisturiser on if you are leaving it on?

We wouldn’t advise this as the balm will be enough for the skin. If you leave this on as an overnight balm then you don’t need to use any moisturiser on top, as it is deeply hydrating!

Does this have added fragrance?

We’ve formulated this product with no added fragrance because we understand how sensitive some skin types can be.

What is this formulated without?

Brilliant Balm does NOT contain: palm Oil (including derivatives of palm oil) ; Petroleum; Silicones; Alcohol; Formaldehyde; PEGs; Sulphates; Artificial Dyes; Soy; Gluten; Parabens

Is it a good base for makeup?

No we personally wouldn’t advise this, it is definitely more of an overnight leave on balm, or during the day at home. It sinks into the skin and isn’t heavy but it is a luxury balm rather than a lightweight one. What we would suggest is using it as a cleanser before doing your makeup and giving yourself a little facial massage even a couple of seconds can help with the skin’s natural glow and plumpness, this will lock in the moisture and make a great starting point before doing your makeup afterwards!

How many times a week should you use it?

I personally use it every day – mostly evenings, sometimes in the morning too. If my skin feels dry and the heating has been on then it just sets my skin up for the day. It’s great at soothing and for sensitive skin. Or you can use it as a treat once a week, or a couple of times, it’s up to you really!

How does it fit in with the Core Collection?

You can use our Brilliant Balm as a cleanser. It works great as a double cleanse using the Brilliant Balm and then the Reviving Cleansing Cream after, followed by the tonic and face cream.

You can also use it as a leave-on balm during the night, or massage it into the skin.

It’s really versatile and complements the current range as it’s deeply hydrating and boosts the skin’s complexion

Why should you use the balm first and then the Reviving Cleansing Cream if you want to double cleanse?

There is no right or wrong with what order you use the products because both products really complement each other as they use different ingredients and benefits but ultimately give the same results by helping with the overall skin complexion and its natural glow.

We personally prefer this way for the following reasons:

Start with the Brilliant Balm – this balm is the ultimate makeup, dirt, grime, pollutant and SPF remover. It helps to improve the skin’s natural barrier to prevent water loss, keeping skin hydrated, moisturised and plump due to the blend of oils we have used which include squalane (helps with skin suppleness, reduces fine lines and wrinkles and improves skin firmness) and bisabolol which protects the skin against daily stresses.

Our Reviving Cleansing Cream is a lighter consistency and cream texture, it contains anti-inflammatory properties to help reduce redness, blemishes and problematic skin and helps to refresh and soothe the skin.

Can this be used without water?

Yes – that is the beauty of this product. You massage it into dry hands and then apply to the skin – do not apply to damp hands, or a damp face. You do need to use a damp muslin cloth, cotton pads or flannel to remove it though!

Are the Brilliant Balm and Lip Balm the same formulation?

No, they are two very different products and formulations, one for cleansing and conditioning skin, the other to nourish and moisturise lips. Shop our Intensely Nourishing Lip Balm here.

What’s the packaging?

Brilliant Balm is recyclable packaging:
Frosted glass jar
Aluminium screw top lid with EPE liner (remove this to recycle the lid)
FSC cardboard outer carton
FSC cardboard inner liner

When should I do a patch test?

When using any new product we recommend doing a patch test first. See here for how to patch test.
